Mount Hope Cemetery Cinema – August
The Bangor Historical Society, in partnership with Mount Hope Cemetery Corporation, is proud to host an unforgettable outdoor film screening held among the historic headstones of one of America’s oldest garden cemeteries. This unique event celebrates Bangor’s deep ties to horror fiction and film, offering guests a chance to experience a chilling classic under the stars.
Each year features a different film with local or historical significance. Past screenings have included Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, filmed on-site at Mount Hope Cemetery, and Carrie, directed by Brian De Palma and based on King’s first published novel.
What to Bring
- Lawn chairs or blankets (seating is not provided)
- Warm clothing (evenings can be chilly)
- Flashlights are encouraged
On-Site Concessions
- Popcorn, candy and bottled water will be available for purchase.
Please Note
- No smoking, alcohol, drugs, or pets permitted in the cemetery.
- This is a community-friendly event. Please be respectful of the historic site and its surroundings.
Weather Policy
In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to the following evening. Ticket holders will be notified by email.

Bangor Historical Society Annual Awards Night – October
An Evening of Heritage, Honor, and Celebration! Step into a night of timeless elegance as the Bangor Historical Society hosts its annual Awards Night, a signature event that brings history to life while honoring those who preserve it. Each year features a unique theme celebrating Bangor’s rich past with a touch of charm and creativity. Whether it’s Victorian grandeur or Regency-era flair, guests are invited to dress to match the theme and enjoy an evening where history and hospitality meet. Proceeds from this event directly benefit the Bangor Historical Society’s efforts to protect and share Bangor’s rich history through exhibits, lectures, and community programs.
The evening includes:
- Presentation of the Society’s annual preservation and history awards
- Hors d’oeuvres and buffet dinner
- Cash bar
- Entertainment
